ELPP serves communities, organizations and institutions that seek to empower communities, address issues around poverty, injustice, human rights, social accountability, and sustainable development. ELPP is mandated to implement projects in all regions of Tanzania mainland. However, its main project activities are currently implemented in the Lake Victoria Regions of Tanzania (Shinyanga, Tabora, Kagera, Simiyu, Geita, Mwanza, and Mara).
Programme Implementation Status and Accomplishment
ELPP works in partnership with Oxfam Tanzania and SNV to implement development and humanitarian programmes in Tanzania. The organization has six (6) permanent staff. four (4) out of these have relevant skills in Project Cycle Management, Climate Change, Climate Smart Agriculture and Natural Resource Management while two (2) have relevant skills in financial accounting and management. ELPP has proven track records in implementing development and humanitarian response projects in Tanzania. These projects including Opportunities for Youth Employment, Water and Sanitation, Climate Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction, Promotion of climate smart agriculture and Environmental conservation, Economic empowerment to the most vulnerable groups of people and capacity building to the community and technical staff. Also, the organization, has a proven track record of accomplishments through working with various stakeholders in the regions of Shinyanga, Tabora, Geita, Simiyu, Mwanza and Kagera.
We promote youth and women empowerment programmes through implementing human rights and livelihood support interventions. These interventions include: training on Gender Based Violence, Gender equality, advocacy, technical and business skills in selected IGAs and contributing to logistic and running costs of IGAs implemented by youth and women CBOs
Besides the above, ELPP is currently implementing climate resilience and disaster risk reduction projects involving female and male youth, adult men and women in Shinyanga Region. ELPP is a lead organization in the consortium of seven (7) CSOs involved in the implementation of climate resilience and disaster risk reduction in Kahama/Msalala District. ELPP does not only train members of the community, but also professionals and technical staff such as teachers, religious leaders, community animators and government officials/employees. Local Actors (LGA, SCOs, Private sector and Community) at district and regional levels have nominated ELPP to coordinate the activities implemented by humanitarian CSOs in Kahama District, in Shinyanga region.
ELPP interventions, targets a wide range of vulnerable groups that notably include: Adult smallholder farmers (above 35 years); Bee keeping and honey pressing groups; Age discriminate vulnerable youth groups (18- 35 years), Women Groups, Women Headed Households and women facing abuse, neglect, exploitation or violence. Stakeholders include: Local Government Authorities, NGOs, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Faith Based Organizations (FBOs), and Private Sector, Ordinary Citizens/Communities, and climate change animators/activist
Moreover, these groups of people have been severely affected by pro-longed drought due to climate change. This situation has led to sharp decrease in traditional crop yields, total loss of crops leading to severe increase in household food and income insecurity in the lake zone regions.
ELPP’s achievements can be observed in two levels, at organization and programme implementation levels. Under organization level ELPP has encountered various achievements that one can be proud of and confident.
One of the notable achievements is staff retention. ELPP has managed to retain her key staff such as Administrator Cum Accountant for 12 years, the Programmes Coordinator for 12 years and other workers who have remained with ELPP for a period of more than five years.
In programme implementation ELPP has made several achievements through the successful implementation of various development and humanitarian programmes. These programmes notably include: Opportunities for Youth Employment, Water and Sanitation, Climate Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction, Promotion of climate smart agriculture, Environmental conservation, Poverty alleviation through economic empowerment to the most vulnerable groups of people and capacity building to the community and technical staff.
